This past Friday June 16, 2017, AHEPS representatives, Hali Fitzpatrick and Judy Arnall, met with Alberta Education to discuss the revised Standards for Home Education Reimbursement. Alberta Education remained true to their word in a meeting last October, in reviewing and revisiting the document by the end of the school year.
AHEPS met with Alberta Education in October, November and December 2016, and March 2017, regarding this document and submitted Alberta Education’s Feedback Survey in May 2017 with all of our member’s November and February responses from the newsletter, surveys and the AHEPS member’s facebook group. Rest assured, your voice went straight to the government.
AHEPS is pleased that many of the concerns identified by our members were addressed in a revised draft version of the Standards document, although we believe there is still some work to be done. The document continues to be a work-in-progress and AHEPS continues to advocate for more changes that will widen flexibility for home education reimbursements.
We are happy that Alberta Education’s Assistant Deputy Minister, Wendy Boje, and Minister Eggen’s Chief of Staff, Jeremy Nolais, has assured us that the conversations with all stakeholders present at the meeting will continue and we will have guidelines released before the summer.
